Vegan Journey for Planet Earth
Hi! I’m Charity Kahn and I’ll be heading up PAEAN’s Vegan Journey for Planet Earth. We’ll be providing ongoing support for folks in the PAEAN community to move in the direction of diet and lifestyle choices that prioritize plants over animal products and embody compassion for non-human animals and the Earth. You don’t need to commit to being 100% vegan to join this initiative.
Every step toward plant-based living mitigates climate change and reduces harm to animals, ecosystems, wildlife, marginalized humans, and Mother Earth. As an antidote to the deep despair of our times, it’s joyful to have the option many times per day to make choices that heal rather than harm, simply by shifting what we put on our plates.
The Dharma Focus - how do we frame it?
There is a clear alignment between a plant-based diet/lifestyle and the teachings of the Dharma and the precepts. We look forward to exploring this synergy through contemplation, conversation, deepening our understanding of harmless living within Mother Nature’s sacred web of life, and committing to collective action.
The Practical Focus - how do we make it happen?
We will offer:
Vegan Challenge & Celebration: Every quarter, we will offer a 15-Day Vegan Challenge & Celebration workshop with zoom meetings, daily emails, and other forms of support. Visit our Vegan Mentoring page for upcoming course dates.
Events: Movie Screenings, podcast discussions, talks by vegan Dharma teachers, and other ongoing opportunities to explore plant-based living in sangha. Check our Vegan Journey for Planet Earth calendar of events to stay updated.
Vegan Corner: We will include recipes, podcasts, tips, and other resources in every PAEAN newsletter. Sign up for PAEAN newsletter to stay updated. We will also list them on the PAEAN website under the “Vegan Journey” tab.
The Celebration Focus - how do we stay joyful?
This is meant to be a journey of inspiration and awakening. We’ll offer non-judgmental support and acceptance for wherever people are on the journey. We’ll meet our difficult feelings and entrenched habits with mindfulness and compassion, continuing to ask, “What’s happening now?” and “How is that?” We’ll revel in the happiness of non-harming and the freedom of renunciation. And we’ll celebrate every small step in the direction of love and kindness!

About Charity Kahn:
I’m a musician, mother, Certified Mindfulness Meditation Instructor (MMTCP with Jack Kornfield/Tara Brach), and certified Qigong teacher (Nick Loffree) based in the SF-Bay Area. My intention is to bring people together in community to experience and practice joy, connection, peace, kindness and compassion through music, dance, meditation and Qigong. I’ve been vegan since 2012 and it’s the best decision I’ve made in my life.
